Marble Arch
Oxford Street & Park Lane, London, W1, England
Marble Arch used to stand as an elaborate gateway to Buckingham Palace. This famous London landmark was built by John Nash in 1827 and was based on the Arch of Constantine in Rome. Marble Arch's white marble was chosen specifically to contrast with the colours of Buckingham Palace. Senior members of the Royal family and the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery are the only people permitted to pass under Marble Arch. The arch was moved to where it stands today in 1851 and is a truly magnificent piece of historical architecture.
